27 August 06 - Priya & Devan...A new beginning

Weddings always put tears in my eyes and this wedding is no acception. I've only known Priya for over 2 years and being invited to her wedding was an honour, being with people you love makes the ceremony even more memorable for me. This wasnt my 1st Indian wedding but it was my 1st time in a saree. I was given 2 weeks to get a saree (Priya insisted that it must be yellow and orange) and learn to wear it on my own without anyone's help!

I went through hell, being stuck in the traffic, took the wrong route, missed turnings, couldnt get the right colour, the blouse I bought the 1st time didnt fit, I had to have the blouse tailored, it wasnt ready on the right date, waited for it to be sewn in 1 1/2 hours and a bunch of other stuff but in the end it was worth it!
Being Malaysian is wonderful with all the different ethnics and it is even better when you understand each other's culture and religion, thus respecting their believes.

I am known to be a person who goes all out if I am really into something or someone. So in this case, I had the whole works, including the bangles, chocker, earings and all. Once I have everything in place, I had 3 people teach me how to wrap the saree around me. (This includes the bride herself, the tea lady at the office and the tailor).I must say that I surprise myself sometimes...not to mention, my Indian collegues were proud that I managed to have the saree intact through the night!

A message to the newly weds...Have a wonderful life together and enjoy the journey!
